Be Vigilant

Started by: dostaf (inactive)

THE region’s new head of counter terrorism has asked for help from Wigan residents, urging for public vigilance.

Here

Obviously vigilance is needed everywhere. I wonder if Wigan was specifically mentioned?

I was expecting an 'Aye Awreeet' (Wigan terror group) comment.

Bloody hell!

I don't know about the train, the third rail nearly did for her.

I wonder if the story will be back, Dostaf? It's not listed in the Local News section anymore.

An extract, though I haven't been able to find any further references to DCS Tony Mole's words online, as yet.

I did have a look to see if it was one of those stories replcated in other regional presss, Jo Anne.

Thinking that the WEP had used 'Wigan' in place of Greater Manchester. Which does seem to happen from time-to-time.

Even when appeals/warnings are made on a national basis.

But I found nothing else, from DCS Mole.

2009 Seem similar?

Seems the NWCTU is a multi force agency.

Recently involved with that missing explosives from train incident in Warrington.

There are five units.

The North East Counter Terrorism Unit (NE CTU) was set up in April 2007. It is one of five Counter Terrorism Units designed to strengthen the UK’s response to the threat of terrorism.

West Yorkshire Police has responsibility for the North East CTU. Together with the other Units in Manchester, Birmingham, Thames Valley and London, the North East CTU helps to make sure that the police service in the UK is better equipped to prevent or respond to terrorist incidents and to investigate and prosecute those involved.

We're in the North West though, Dostaf?

I mentioned and linked the North East one, as I found the mention of there being five of them whilst googling.

Still can't find any more on the specific appeal mentioned. Especially to Wiganers.

I was wondering, as I read about the missing explosives (from train) whey GMP were running the show.

As the stuff went from Cheshire and was located in Merseyside.

As for the where is Wigan specifically mentioned, I fear I'm getting more like Tonker.

From Greater Manchester Police's Website (28th Jan 2013):

"The new head of the North West Counter Terrorism Unit (NW CTU) is urging communities across the North West of England to support the police in the fight against terrorism.

In a week-long campaign, the NW CTU will encourage people working and living in the North West region to be vigilant and report any suspicious or unusual behaviour to the confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321.

The best way for people to help the police is by storing the Anti-Terrorist Hotline number in their mobile phone or diary, and any calls will be treated in confidence.

This campaign is the latest phase of work by the NW CTU to raise public awareness about the threat from terrorism. It is not linked to any current threat."

You are right Billy - the military is being stretched too wide and too thinly.

We airlifted French troops, as well as our own into Mali and Cameron has committed himself to another bloody campaign.

This isn't my war.

No Place for Politics
Sorry, the politics board is no more.

Why not?
wiganworld was created 10+ years ago with good intentions of sharing information and helping Wiganers at home and abroad with research into local history, family research and positive banter. This has very recently gone wrong.

The good outweighs the bad.
Over the 10+ years, many contributors have given their time to help with the website and to promote the positives that Wigan has to offer. It is not in the spirit of wiganworld to create hate, racist comments or other negativity. I'm sure you'll agree that without the politics board, wiganworld will be a better and more positive website to visit.

Moving on...
Please, no more politics. Please, no more religion. There are other websites out there - if you're hell bent on spouting politics and/or religion, Google is your friend, find another site. In the meantime lets keep wiganworld on topic... It's about Wigan.

Unfortunately I've had to disable several logins. If you are one and have an official response, I will be happy to post them here...
